Silver haired freak

Has the bar set for old age, come down? The teens are getting highly conscious about obesity; the twenties are getting conscious about joint pains and wrinkles; the thirties are busy with pills for reducing their blood pressure and sugar levels; the forties and the fifties have already signed bond papers for splitting their fortunes with their kith and kin.   Health issues and insecurity looming large in our lives, it is common sense to know why the healthcare industry and insurance industry are always on the up. Even the communication industry has learnt our life so well that they offer “ life time validity sim cards ” knowing very well that we will not make it for more than couple of decades and to make it doubly sure they offer cell phones to kill you with it’s radiation. Time table has become the norm of the day and with a virtual logo on every corporate employee’s forehead reading “ time is money ”…it is not written but chiseled with references to some top notch Business co...

A hectic day in office…trying to jot down my task list for the day, 2010 football world cup wavin’ flag – K’naan picked up momentum in my mobile, I realized it was time to change my outdated ringtone. But for the time being I had to pull out my mobile from my pocket so that it does not yell. Generally, my fingers would have reached out to the mute ringtone option in the touch screen, but this time around I did not want to…one of my cousin’s number flashed on the touch screen of my HTC. The concern My cousin, a perfect user of the phone or at least with me…he calls up if there is a necessity and that invariably makes me pick his calls. He being a professor by profession enquired about me and my work and hit straight on the topic. He asked me to jot down a number and said “Speak to her she is my colleague’s daughter, check if you guys ca...

Long way to go

Sleep in the brink of the eye, Rested the folded arms in façade frame; Eyes drooped and the head rested in the arms, Intellect slowly turned cozy, I have a long way to go. Thud, the eyes open bright, Wage earner with a coffee cup pushed the rested arms, Courtesy a distant reverie, moved back to accept veracity: Intellect slowly turned livid, I have a long way to go. The wheels beneath sunk into potholes, The coffee cup churned to the wage earner’s dismay. Dispensed few mL on the floor and sipped a few more; dazed by the deed Intellect slowly turned belligerent, I have a long way to go. Few more draughts and a hasty look The coffee cup on the shuddering floor with no etiquettes Gooey from the coffee cup steeps the shoe Intellect slowly turned abstemious, we have a long way to go!

My freedom ends where a butterfly’s freedom begins

A miracle needed for my train ticket to Coimbatore, it was Monday and I had to travel that evening. I got my ticket through My company's travel desk which read WL/14 and by 6:00 PM I got a call from one of the agents “Sir, A1 cabin 1”. Well...miracles do happen!!! Not only a train ticket to Coimbatore but with an upgrade to 1st class AC.... Looks like there is something with me and travel… Couple of weeks back, I traveled to Pune for an official trip….if flyin in KF was good it was made awesome by the VW Jetta that was waiting for me at the airport to chauffeur me. Well in utter disbelief, I confirmed it more than 5 times and I always got a polite answer with a “Sab” or “Sir”…which definitely meant respect and the chauffeur was more than willing to carry my bag and also held an umbrella to protect me from the heavy shower that greeted me in the Pune airport. Well back to the Coimbatore trip…cabin for 4 but only 3 turned up. One on the berth already… the other fiddling wi...

Whack…whack…whack!!! I swung my hand with a rolled newspaper in my hand and my eyes watching an interesting game of football. Three matches per day for the next one month FIFA world cup 2010…snacks and cup of black tea by my side; I missed the cup of black tea by a ‘cm’ in one of my hand swing. 11:50 PM… Despite multiple swings…I kept hearing a buzzzzzzz in my ears and a few of my hand swings landed on my neck and cheeks… My two sense organs…the ear and the skin had an irritant; but the nose, tongue and eyes were on course for a great 45 min, 15 min and 45 min plus added time. The vapor from the tea cup tempted me to take a sip…soon my tongue realized that the cook in me had filtered a strong tea decoction that tasted bitter…need some more sugar!!!! To neutralize the bitterness, I munched a potato chip on my way to the kitchen. Two spoons of sugar and one more…the sip was a lot better. My eyes were in for a treat for the next two hours. The buzzzz was intermittent and my...

A day of(f) a bachelor life

Hot is not the word to describe the climate in Chennai…loss (got trashed) in a football match made it worse. I landed back home in my Fiat UNO…a li’l untidy literally means…I have not cleaned my car it for ages. I drove slowly through my street to my allotted parking space. Not a soul in the vicinity except for a little boy playin with a tennis ball…pitchin it around just in front of my “allotted parking space”. For a little background… My movements are always noted...the time I leave, the way I walk, the type of attire, the kind of hair style, the kind of stuffs I carry, the way I smile, the way I frown, the objects I gaze at, the side I look at, the person I go out with, the person I come home with, the time I come. Especially noted by the woman kind, not coz of celebrity status but coz I am a bachelor. My fellow bachelors would agree with me. A bachelor is a man above the age of majority who has never been married (see single). -source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bache...

How not to collect a gift

The portal for the Corporate annual gift showed a couple of gifts like rice cooker, Adidas travel bag, bean bag…etc. I promptly clicked on a gift even though I cribbed on the limited choice and the products in display…I cribbed as if I was not interested in any of those products on display… Well, that was the voice of “Rugged Me”…but my conscience - “Sober Me” had other thoughts … with bank loans, credit card dues, mobile bills and room rent wiping away 95% of my salary and the rest 5% for food…my bank account hardly showed any balance after 15th of every month… I (sober me) appreciated any sort of gift that was on offer and preferred something that helped me retain a little cash for at least a few more days… Few months passed and the thoughts about the portal and gift slowly faded and that is when an email from “gift@ mycompany .com” showed up in my inbox… Typically, my colleagues expected me to take an Adidas bag or a Bean bag… Rugged Me, created a reputation of some heppppp bac...
