Devil's workshop

A bride and the groom where at the altar ready to exchange the ring… a kid in the audience asked his Mom

Kid: Mom, why is the lady wearing a white gown?

Mom:  She is very happy about the occasion so she is wearing a white gown to show her happiness

Kid: Then, why is the man wearing a black suit?

It was a lazy week end and one of the news paper supplements had this joke, I slowly flipped to the next page. Pictures/photos attract me much more than words…I cannot remember the heading of the article but it had a photo of a rally conducted by the women folk, who held a few hand written posters…one of it read

“Violence free home is a woman’s dream”

“Ya, they deserve a violence free home” thought my mind and slowly sank into my bamboo chair and watched the idiot box. With noting worthwhile to watch, my thoughts fluttered around the activities that happened that week and as the famous quote goes…

“Idle mind is a devil’s workshop”

My thoughts wandered around the activities that happened in the van on my trip back home from work.

The trip back home

The person right behind me was on the phone and was trying to persuade a subordinate to stay in the same project and flattered him by saying “you are one of the best resources…Mr. Manager has got high regards for you”. The conversation quickly ended when my “van buddy“, left the choice to his subordinate to rethink on his decision and get back.

He then dialed another number and started off with a few sweet talks…I figured out that it was a lady on the other end. Slowly his voice increased and he grunted few times to indicate to his lady that he was suffering from cold, which attracted the rest of the buddies to give him a sarcastic look.  But I had a dry smile…looks like my van buddy has not had a lot of good times in his life or probably, having his last set of good times before marriage.

Soon the van stopped to pick up a few more employees (mostly women) from another location before heading home.

Inhuman act

All of them settled down, van buddy had a companion apart from the one on the phone. I slowly dozed off. All of a sudden I was woken by a sound and pain on my thumb. Writing pad with a clip on one end fell on me; the sharp end of the clip hit my thumb. Fit of rage hit my head and picked up the writing pad to whack the female sitting in front of me but I composed myself (undue powers of the women folk can brand me as an eve teaser) and wrote my name and employee ID (that is what it was meant for) and passed it to van buddy to do the same. I was still furious and wanted to note down her employee ID, to send a stinker the next day. Again, the undue power of women folk will portray it as harassment, hence decided against it. I was furious about the inhuman act…but she did not bother to apologies, let alone an apology she did not even bother to turn back to find out as to what happen. Over the corner of my eyes I saw a few people looking at me, I sulked and tried doze off again.

To comfort myself I thought of her as a “witch” like those old cartoon where a slim, beautiful young lady will turn into an old witch with a sieve in her hand the only difference was the cartoon character was slim and beautiful in the beginning but the reality “witch” was a little plump and definitely not beautiful.

Just then the phone rang; it was my friend who called me to remind me about swimming which we regularly go during the week ends. I got up from my bamboo chair and got ready for the time out with friends.

But on a serious note, I don’t see any difference between a racial abuse and her behavior

My question is “why this cruel behavior?”

If “Violence free home is a woman’s dream” then “Insult free world is a man’s dream“

Comments

  1. The words are just for the rally
which contradicts their actions is really folly.

This is nothing to comment on the gender,
"How people disguise?" is what I wonder.

  2. Your unspoken reaction at that moment was the cause to fill this space. Thank that girl for that :-)
But still you should have scolded or told her in your own stylish manner but sarcastically. mmm.. thought provoking blog. Hope that gal reads and realizes.

The Bane of Media

My Dad believed the newspaper paper especially the English ones might just be the tool that differentiated the intellectuals with others. I remember him reading it end to end from time know to me. I probably was too young until later part of 1980s to attempt reading, if at all it was the fortnightly magazine “The frontline” which had some awesome snaps of military tankers to airforce flights. I vaguely remember Rajiv Gandhi was in the helm and was in very many pages as well. Newspapers then wanted to lure the younger ones, “the young world”, something that my Dad thought I could read and understand. I dreaded those Saturday newspapers forcing me to read the four pages of the kids section.   As weeks passed by I just about managed few articles in it but was overwhelmed by some of the stories of extraordinary talent. Yes there was comparison, well know to our generation, some survived the comparison and rose to the occasion the rest fell away only to realise they were equally good a...

My freedom ends where a butterfly’s freedom begins

A miracle needed for my train ticket to Coimbatore, it was Monday and I had to travel that evening. I got my ticket through My company's travel desk which read WL/14 and by 6:00 PM I got a call from one of the agents “Sir, A1 cabin 1”. Well...miracles do happen!!! Not only a train ticket to Coimbatore but with an upgrade to 1st class AC.... Looks like there is something with me and travel… Couple of weeks back, I traveled to Pune for an official trip….if flyin in KF was good it was made awesome by the VW Jetta that was waiting for me at the airport to chauffeur me. Well in utter disbelief, I confirmed it more than 5 times and I always got a polite answer with a “Sab” or “Sir”…which definitely meant respect and the chauffeur was more than willing to carry my bag and also held an umbrella to protect me from the heavy shower that greeted me in the Pune airport. Well back to the Coimbatore trip…cabin for 4 but only 3 turned up. One on the berth already… the other fiddling wi...

The funny side of it

The economic down turn and "layoffs" the order of the day...I am lucky to be in an organization which is not affected by the turmoil. But never the less IT service industry is not the safest place to live in. With monotony setting in...I am getting restless and seriously wanted a break, probably a couple of days off… Unfortunately for me, these high profile meeting and discussions happening every other day, I don’t really want to be left out...I had to know what was happening around. With options of a couple of days off completely ruled out, I sat starring at my desktop and expected a miracle to happen. I turn around on a lookout for my colleagues to pass few comments, and in return I get a few business jargons (ohhhhhh no!!!!!!). I hate it but unfortunately or fortunately this is something very common in my team, associates and managers keep relating every single activity they see with some business strategy or the other. Can you believe..one of my manager compared the "...
